女性高潮更多取決於基因？
最近一些研究認為女性性高潮更多地由其自身條件決定，與跟性伴侶床上技巧的關係沒有原本想像的那樣密切。然而國內的專家並不同意此說。台灣《康健雜誌》最新一期有關兩性的話題非常引人注目：女人在性生活中獲得性高潮並非必然，它只是幫助受孕的一種附屬品，跟性伴侶床上技巧的關係也沒有大家想像的那樣密切。
報道援引了英國倫敦聖托馬斯醫院學者的一項研究成果。研究顯示，34%—45%的女性無法達到性高潮，並不是她們性伴侶的能力不夠，也不是因為她們自己經驗不足，而是基因差異，讓她們天生就比別的女性顯得更遲鈍一些。英國《新科學家》雜誌評價說，這個研究不同於數十年來對女性性功能的調查與猜測，它著眼於文化、教養與生物學的角度，首開先例探討女性性高潮跟基因的關聯，它是女性性高潮能力的生物學基礎。
還有研究認為，性高潮是女性用來選擇配偶的工具，最能帶給女性性高潮的男性，也是幫助女性孕育後代的最佳配偶。甚至有人提出，女人的性高潮製造了讓精子順利受精的機會。
另外，印第安納大學哲學家羅依在她的新書《關於女人性高潮》中嚴格區分了性興奮與性高潮的不同，認為從進化角度來看，性興奮很重要，因為人想要有性，所以才能孕育後代;而女人的性高潮只是一個「美麗的意外」，是響應男人性高潮的附加產物。
「基因的產物」、「受孕需求的附屬品」，這些看法讓性高潮的魅力大打折扣。不過，並非所有專家都贊同這樣的觀點。當被《新科學家》雜誌記者問及對這個基因研究的看法時，羅依也認為，這個發現源於小樣本試驗，缺乏足夠的理論依據。
